Bumblefoot
Bumblefoot is basically a bacterial infection that enters the chicken’s system through a scratch or injury on the base in the foot or between toes. Left untreated can be very painful and cause lameness.
Poor old Pip, when checking her over during her heavy moult, I discovered the early stages of her bumblefoot. So, this is how we treated it. Starting with a day spa of a lovely long soak in epsom salts and warm water, I managed to soften the “core” and squeeze it out. It came out pretty easily, no blood and she didn’t even flinch. I then dried her off and cleaned the wound with betadine, followed by a spray of In-Silver spray on bandage.
This picture is one week after and it’s clean and healing nicely.
